Compare Thatcher with Bown and you start to realise what a real PM was all about.
The political theatrics these days pale in comparison with the actual politics that went on in "the good old days".

Funny how as a child you loathed her and now as an adult you respect the woman and her policies even if they didn't benefit you directly all those years ago.

Funny thing was I didn't like William Hague either when he was in the running for the General Election, then when he eased himself out of politics and appeared on Have I Got News For You etc. he came over as a bloody good chap.

"New Labour" can be blamed for one thing above all: being Thatcherite. Everything that the current government is criticised for on here is Thatcherite. Those of you who are still having wet dreams about her should grow up and face the facts; she isn't your nanny, and her nanny state (where nanny is harsh and cruel and punishes you even if it wasn't your fault) was wrong and evil. If you think she/it was a Good Thing, then all I can say is that you should find another way to sublimate your masochistic fantasies than through General Elections.

One for all the Guardianista to ponder, industry has declined three times faster under Blair/Brown than it did under the Tories (linky).
