Haven't owned it long enough to have any problems, but got it fully checked out before hand. Make sure you go for the panoramic roof too, very nice. ..
As for performance there's little difference, the M3 is a pretty awesome car. My mates 911 turbo S (+100bhp of upgrades) is way faster than the SL point to point. The SL is a bit of a compromise between performance and touring comfort (+ gadgets etc) which suits me.

Seriously mate you need to check the latest gen of Jap cars - I agree styling has hitherto been tulip but they're wising up now and hiring the best Western designers.
They've always had better engineering integrity than the Krauts.Hard Brexit now!
