Nope this does not sound right, you have to pay income tax on ALL your salary not the salary less employee NI - I wish it was the other way around.

I have a potential new job. The boss has a budget of £30ph to pay for my services. He has to employ me as a locum/temp/contractor, not permanent, and probably on a 6 month rolling basis, and I'm trying to work out the most tax efficient means.

A limited company seems the best route.

Then it is for my ltd company to invoice my boss each month.

What fundamental flaw am I missing?

Planning on going to Victoria, but the skilled migration visa I'm applying for has a 3 year processing time now wherever you plan on settling. Most annoying!

If the bloke is amenable, why don't you just go the sole-trader route. Much less hassle, and he most likely won't be away of possibility of being liable for your Tax & NI if you don't pay it.
