Fencing is too gay.
Martial Arts is too much like hard work.
Archery is a good option, best yet!
It can be a very consuming hobby, and a chap at work here does it. They're sticklers for authenticity in their chosen era, and they organise mass pitched battles across the UK, with every weekend in summer taken up with an event.
During the winter months, they prepare for the coming summer, polishing and repairing kit, practicing their riding skills (he's a cavalryman), organising socials, etc.
Pick an era and immerse yourself in it. It's a great escapist hobby, in which you get to educate others about the time period, and get paid for it as well.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Here is a whacky idea for a hobby. Might even make a good plan B also.
Stained glass windows.
BUT..
with a modern theme, rather than a religious one. Like a man with a zapper pointing at the telly. Or a kid on the PS, or a mum pushing a pram, or a tescos shop front
etc
