Look at the graph you posted. The last oil price spike started with the Yom kippur war and continued with the Islamic revolution in Iran and further continued with the Iran-Iraq war.

Kapish? Different reasons but any instability in the Middle East, potential or actual, always eems to raise the price of oil.

Now don't you have a company to run or have you given up with that?

The trigger was not Iranian revolution - it was OPECs boycott, the rest was fear and good old speculation: same happens this time.

1973 is time of OPEC boycott

I'm wondering how many of these shares are fake:

Naked short selling seems to be a standard feature of the markets these days.

          Pathetic.

Yes I said the OPEC boycott was the start.

I enjoyed wiping the floor with you, but would wish for stronger intellectual competition next time.
But I understand that now you're having to work with other people, that must be taking a significant chunk of what little cognitive capaibility you have.

You said exactly that - the spike wasn't caused by Iranian Revolution just like years' spike to $150 wasn't caused by events of the last year: the trigger was Iraq was in 2003 and OPECs boycott in 1973 - the rest was speculators in both cases.

Yes snaw, it all about supply and demand and war.

like the war in Canada and war in Saudi Arabia and the war in Venezuela, etc.

$100 a barrel is quite normal and it's cos there is no oil left and Chinese are all eating it with noodles.

Can't be bothered. If I wanted to educate morons I'd teach the stats course sasguru is going on later this year.

You mean the Financial mathematics MSc I've started?
You have about as much chance of teaching that as Gordo suddenly becoming an economic genius.

Oh no, it was a war wot done it.

Or maybe the Chinese all switched their central heating on.
You seem to be incapable of understanding the effects of consumption on oil price.

                    Here's some help:

                    http://www.reuters.com/article/lates.../idUSN06418021

World petroleum demand is still expected to drop overall in 2009 to 83.67 million bpd, well below the 2008 level of 85.46 million bpd.

The EIA estimates world oil consumption will rebound in 2010, climbing by 1.1 million bpd compared with 2009. Last month the agency had projected a smaller increase of 910,000 bpd.

"Sustained economic growth in China and signs of a turnaround in other Asian countries continue to fuel expectations of a global recovery in world oil consumption," the EIA said.

Chinese oil demand was revised upward to 8.17 million bpd for 2009 from a previous estimate of 8.08 million bpd.

China's rapid economic growth was one of the key drivers of oil's six-year rally that sent prices up to near $150 a barrel last year.
                    Here's some more ..

See where China is on that table, see where India is. Their projected demand is increasing as of about now, and definitely next year. You don't think that might have an impact on price?
