Owning a design icon, whether it's a Mac, a Mondrian, Mini, Magimix or a Miele

I fail to see how a bunch of assembled components, most of which are mass produced by other companies and stuffed into a shiney box make Mac's a "design icon".
There is nothing revolutionary about their design

No, I'm not Gok Wan (), yes, quite a few Apple products are design icons (including the iPhone), and yes, iconography is more than the components the product is manufactured from.

You're being a little naïve if you underestimate the role design plays here. It's not all about function. The most successful designs have a balance/harmony between form and function.

I got quite adept at fixing Apple II power supplies. I can give you some tips if you want to get it fixed.
