Let me quote no less an authority than Wikipedia, from the article Delirium Tremens

Although used rarely, an alcohol drip may be prescribed to sedate severe patients, who will then need to be "weaned" off of the alcohol.

My PM (knobface)'s last day tomorrow. They all went to the pub at lunch, and then out after work. Looks like a messy one.

I nursed a diet coke at my desk over lunch. Then as I left work, I thought, I could murder a pint.

Then I got the train home.

I feel a lot better for laying off it. And there is a bloke at work today who was telling me how he had "been on the orange juices" all week because the work drinking culture was getting him down.

I wonder how long that will last, as the last thing I saw was him saunter off with the PM leaving drinks party at 5:30.

The thing is, I never saw anywhere in the wikipedia definition of an alchy

"Can stop drinking totally with no qualms, yet fancies a pint after work on the odd occasion. A modicum of self control can combat this though"

It's good to get some time to mull these things over, soberly.

Min. walk is 5 miles. Max probably about 15 miles (which takes me ages!)

I had tried running to lose the weight, be it gave me lots of problems with my knees and lower back. I read an article that stated it was the distance you covered, and not the rate at which you covered it, that gave the calorie burn. So, while I've been out of contract and the Spring/Summer months have been here, walking everyday it has been.

I also find the walking very calming after a bad session with an agent, etc. Take today for example: Went for a 1.5 hour interview at an Investment Bank for a - and this is the bit to stick in your mind - role as a ***Java Programmer*** I leave the interview 1.5 hours after it started and have not been asked ***one single question on Java*** I kid you not; you can't make this stuff up if you tried.

So, once I got home, I took myself for a long walk and tried to asked myself WTF were these people smoking...? Couldn't come up with a convincing answer.

smoking. Why mention that? Busting for a fag. Given the choice of a beer or a fag right now I'd be lighting up.

Try this as an alternative approach for the long haul

I have read and understood the article. I'm weighing up if I could do it or not. I think knowing me, I could do it, but the next time I was down the pub with buddies 2 drinks would become 5 or 6 quite easily.

Not that I have any buddies of course. I am Walter Mitty.

I wonder if I could have a 2 fag a day limit? Still off them btw.

Hmmm an article that paid scant regard to the laws of physics then...

Sounds like you have an addictive personality disorder.
