Quite apt that they used sit down by James as the anthem

    I sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
    Secrets I can’t keep
    Insight of the day
    Swing from high to deep
    Extremes of sweet and sour
    Hope that God exists
    I hope I pray

    Drawn by the undertow
My life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight
    So let it flow

    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
    In sympathy

    Now I’m relieved to hear
That you’ve been to some far out places
    It’s hard to carry on
    When you feel all alone
Now I’ve swung back down again
It’s worse than it was before
If I hadn’t seen such riches
I could live with being poor

    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
    In sympathy

Those who feel the breath of sadness
    Sit down next to me
Those who find they’re touched by madness
    Sit down next to me
    Those who find themselves ridiculous
    Sit down next to me

In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate

    Down
    Down

    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
    In sympathy

    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Oh sit down
    Sit down next to me
Sit down, sit down, sit down, sit down, down
    In sympathy

    Down

I know it's routine for this country to completely reverse its political choice every ten years or so, so it's basically the Tories turn next, but I'm absolutely dreading it. I'm not a dedicated Labour voter (more Lib Dem usually), but they have done some fantastic things during their time in power, spending our money on the things we want it spent on. The big failures - the wars and the economy - are worldwide failures and I cannot see how the Tories would have handled any of that any better at all. They certainly wouldn't have tried to restrict the financial sector's recklessness and they would probably have invaded Iraq and Afghanistan before the Americans had even thought of the idea.

What we're looking at for the next ten years is a load of stuck up toffs cutting budgets to all the public services which have been improved so much under Labour and selling off public assets just so they can claim to have saved the economy.

I wish Labour would put together a series of films showing the state of the NHS, schools, public transport and social care as it was when they took over, and compared with now. People forget so quickly, and the Tories will take us straight back there. Makes me shudder.

If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.

There's enough fiction on TV as it is.

I will have to take some advice on this subject.

Is the NHS better than it used to be?

Should I reregister with a local GP and cancel my BUPA cover?

What, daring to point out how much good Labour has done for this country? On a mindlessly right-wing forum like this, I can understand you thinking it would be, but no, I'm serious.

Yeah, this is probably the problem. I don't suppose many people on this forum even use the NHS, public transport, schools or social care, or ever did under the Tories either, so who would notice the difference.

Rest assured that people will remember the labour improvements over the next 30 or so years thanks to the PFI debt our schools and hospitals are carrying. As for public transport - well you know my views on that. No improvements for me. This weekend I'll be going to Thorpe park and it's still easier for me to drive my family from the North West than it is to use our wonderful public transport system. For social care I still see those who really need it getting missed out but thise who can play the system getting everything on a plate.
