I'm almost too embarrassed but..Originally posted by Liability View Postwhats the quote - and someone will be able to tell you if he is ripping you off.
ive recently had 2 bathrooms done, main and ensuite and went through a lot on pricing...
It was 1440 to basically rip out an old shower that was leaking,
replace the plaster board, re-tile, new shower tray and shower door and shower head/taps, and new extractor fan.
Now the shower door was over 400 quid because I wanted a particular type and I've verified that this is the retail price. So I though 1440 - 400 - 200 for the tray and 200 for the other bits and pieces leaves about 600 for labour.
But he reckons the 1440 was for labour only. He was basically there 2.5 days so thats 20 hours which means he's charging 72 quid an hour.Comment

Where are you?
It sounds like a lot of money, but it's not unusual, in my experience, for plumbers in London to charge 80 gbp per hour.
They also say a job is going to take 3 days only to finish up in 1 day. But since they quoted you for the job, you pay up.Comment

Just ask him for a breakdown of the time - if he confirms he's charging that, say its unreasonable and you're not going to pay it. It won't stand up in court if he gave you unclear estimate.
Also, make sure you're bigger than him...Comment
