Keep your eye out for other roles, but just enjoy the bench time. The role will come though; they are not going to spend £1000's to clear you only to can the role. If anything the work will just stack up leading to more extensions, and having SC is definitely worth a (non-billing) period on the bench.

I also disagree, but for diffrent reasons. SC costs around £800 and is part of a ring-fenced part of the budget anyway: its cost is not an issue.
