My kids did an IB (in Europe). Insanely difficult qualification; many of the students on it were having to resit it several times, leaving school aged 19 or 20 (although that's far more normal on the mainland than in the UK). The only child who found it easy was Korean, but their highschool students work a minimum 12 hours a day anyway. I thought that the Genetic Engineering topic on the science module was particularly hard for a 16 year old to tackle...
... or in other words, you can't put a child through the UKs (compulsory national curriculum) education system and then think they can jump into something like this because its far too big a knowledge gap.
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.
So what if they do pass the International baccalurate or whatever it is. They then try to get a job, and find "you can't get a job without experience".
Result - they end up turning into the type of blaggers and spivs you get on this board, and nothing gained from this impressive qualification at all.
Create? She closed down more grammar schools than all Labour governments combined.
Wake up guys. Grammar schools give educational, social, and economic upward ability to some of the lower classes. Major might have approved of that, but Thatcher didn't (her record proves that), and public-schoolboy Cameron doesn't either (he has said so).
While the likes of Cameron don't want some of the lower classes moving up into their group, Labour doesn't want their brighter folk moving up out of theirs: they don't want just a few to join the higher ranks.
Only the Lib Dems are not against grammar schools.

'“They were really pushing people to join up,” he says. “It was offered only to people who had done well at GCSE because it was thought to be very demanding.'
this thread, and this comment, are tripple a grade candidates for an official Oh Dear.
If the thread title could be edited, this thread should be an Oh Dear.
What else can one say ?
As zippy said, what a wonderful lesson for all concerned,
It doesn't pay to try something difficult. What a great lesson to learn.

Oh Dear
Milan.
I hate to say it but even when I was at uni the lecturers would be astonished if you argued with them, as they were so used to spoon-fed 'A' level students. Being a few years older (and industry-wise) I just got stuck in but most of the students regarded us as if we were from Mars. Oh yeah - we could drink them under the table too
It's not the end of the world for these kids and I'm sure they will be wiser and tougher next time they apply - unlike their A level counterparts.

Maggie closed (when education minister) more Grammer schools than Labour ever did. FACT it did happen under the Tories
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
