      Female perspective.......

We're not all money grabbing bitches

If you have done wrong - i.e. shagged around, beat her up etc - then yes she will try to take you to the cleaners and quite rightly.

If not, and there are no kids, I would hazard a guess not. I speak as a female imagining what I would do in that situation and also from having 3 close friends previously in the same situation.

Try talking to her. It helps.

Just as an aside, allegedly it costs £500 for a pikey from Norfolk to make someone 'dissapear'.

        Its a funny old world....

I think there are people in Glasgow who would do it for fun.

Mindomoo, you are probably correct, but even well-meaning "let's do this amicably" arrangements can end up nasty when the divorcing partner is pressed by their lawyer to go for what they're entitled to. Might not be the case here or in many cases, but why take the chance? Minimising your income is simply being prudent. If all stays amicable, all and well. If not, well at least you've not overexposed yourself to future liabilities.

Sell everything before the divorce and hide the proceeds offshore.
Do your contracts through an offshore brolly till the divorce comes through.
Make sure your wife is not a director of any Ltd you set up.
If the divorce settlement is large then move yourself offshore too.

At least 3 people I have worked with have done exactly that.

Downside is you cant come home without consequences.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

If a court does it, you're in the hole.
If you do it, then set up a limited.

retain the profits in the company and pay yourself a livable salary (not to low that the lawyers can beat you up about it and not so high that they can multiply it by 12 and say its a lot)

Oh and of course don't make her a director!

Umbrella - now that would be the worst solution of all as at the end of each month you get a payslip stating you've been paid a gazillion pounds. Its very easy to multiply that by 12 and then thats a lot. The courts and solicitors won't give a flying f$ck that the work is volatile and no guarantee of repeat gigs.

Good luck with it all though

Sign on the social, you sound a little depressed so go to the doctor and get signed on the sick as well.

I would agree with that Threaded! Get the Doc to sign you off with mega stress and try to claim Incapacity...
Keep up some IT stuff with a voluntary job or something...The writing is on the wall if she is actually waiting for you to get a job before she starts the legal stuff

This is simply an outrageous and preposterous statement.

The notion that people from Glasgow would commit such an act for fun must be rebutted as nothing could be further from the truth.

The people of Glasgow are people of dignity and do not murder people for free, so it will cost you at least a fiver...
