Well, that's a good start isn't it. Only 60 million more to go then.

I wonder how many of that 3,500 are criminals / hackers trying to get hold of one to clone it?
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

AFAIK you can't apply yet - only "express an interest" so even that figure is misleading at best

Alan Johnson MP: "We need identity cards, and soon"

... And this is why I have taken the decision to speed up the rollout of identity cards by announcing that alongside people in Manchester, residents in the wider north-west will also be able to apply for a card in the new year.
              Cheeky, lying frakers.

The government has continually changed its reasoning why ID cards are justified, making me extremely suspicious of its motives. How secure is this centralised information going to be, because I don't trust them to ensure that. Plus the issue of cost.

One project I would never work upon.

ie catch 22 . You don't need an ID but if you can't prove who you are then
                  you will have a problem.

Indeed - except it's nothing to do with proving who you are, it's showing you have some shaky credentials that match the government's equally shaky idea of who they think you are.
