I got SC clearance last November but I'm in a contract now that does not need Clearance. My understanding is that it will lapse after 12 months if I'm not in a role that requires clearance. Is this true and if so is there any way I can extend the expiry date?

It's true, you get 5 years as a contractor but it will laps after 12 months if you don't use it.

As the Ginger one said yes it expires automatically after 12 months if not being used and no there's no way to prevent it apart from taking a gig in that time that requires it.Originally posted by badger7579 View Post

ask you agency if they have the ability to register and hold your seurity clearance for you.
had the same but bailed after the fiist 6 months back into a sc role so i didnt lose it - agency suddenly developed the ability to have held it for me but by then it was too late...
nevermind their loss I only asked the 3 or 4 times which at the time they didnt seem that interested inComment

You may find that your existing client is already working on a government project you are not aware of.
Approach your client to sponsor you - explain your situation. I've been in the same situation and got my client to sponsor me in the past even though SC was not required.
