But 1991 was a radical change, so much so that generally UK unemployment figures are measured before and after 1991.

The bottom line is that we are back to 1997 with unemployment expected to rise to 3-4 million by 2011, with a massive debt problem until 2032, pensions problem, immigration problem etc, and Labour said 'things can only get better'.

Here a litmus test of your prejudices:

1. Tories come in, with unemployment at 1m.
2. Mid-term, Tories have unemployment of 3m.
3. At end, Tories have unemployment of 1m;
Labour come in with unemployment of 1m.
4. Mid-term, Labour have unemployment of 2m.

Q: how do you describe that?
(a) Labour unemployment higher than Tories
or
(b) Labour unemployment back to Tory levels
or
(c) Labour unemployment up, but not as high as Tory levels.

What you seem to forget is that unemployment falls under labour because the state employs everyone, which usually results in the collapse of the UK economy which means the Tories then come in and have to make cuts.

Which is why your statistics fail to tell the full story.
