I dont see how. If you are a consulting company, what is wrong with X Software Ltd? On your bumph (of course you will have a website), you simply advertise the services your company provides.

I have a 'Software' name, and a 'Software' website. My contracting is mainly handled through an agency, they don't give a turd so long as you have a company. My products and and services are all advertised on my website, and I can present a more corporate image.

Hmm...guess using something with 'consultancy' or 'management' isn't too bad, though have to say it's sometimes gives the impression you're just a small/one-man company because so many people use it to 'big themselves up'.

My suggestion, an original and simple one or two word name just in case you ever do become big.

One advantage I found with that was lots of people, e.g. bank managers etc, remembered you much more than 'Joe Bloggs UK Software Management Services Company'.

PS: make sure the domains available and register that as well

When I went to my accountants to get my company name I picked it off a sheet which listed Supercrook ltd amongst the available names.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

            I preferred version 1!

When I had one it was called Flash Data Ltd, which was quite nice. My mate had Bodgit and Leggit Ltd.

I find it quite laughable that you guys think the IR is using the company name for target practice!
What next, only putting someone under surveillance if their surname starts with "al-"???
Or only giving incapacity benefit if you've got a chav name - Ruperts need not apply?
                  Chico, what time is it?

You could be right Beccy love, but there is no harm in being slightly paranoid.
Govt. departments are well known for haveing no imagination and taking the route of least resistance. When the CPA had to increase its take from absent fathers they didnt look for non payers, they went straight to the registered payers and put their costs up.

Cant you imagine Hector sitting there wondering how he can quickly and easily find 100 contractors with Ltd companies.
2 easiest choices are PCG member list or search companies house for "consult" or "software" and filter the results.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!
