Thats countersteering, much shouted about in the motorbike mags i read. I didn't believe it at first but managed to concentrate whilst blatting around the Cat and Fiddle to see what i was doing and yes, when hitting a fast left-hander i noticed i was putting weight on the left grip forcing the wheel to point right when the bike was leant over left.

They are talking about actually teaching this on the new bike test but don't see how they could teach it without casualties as its not the sort of thing you should be thinking about mid-bend!

Yes, and with telescopic front suspension you also get an effect called 'bump steer', wherein you're going around the bend, hit a bump, i.e. a tree root, that pushes the front wheel up the forks, reducing the distance between the front and rear contact patches of the tires, and thereby the radius of curvature of turn. The rider notices this, lets off pedalling and sits up, which just so happens to coincided with the dip on the other side of the bump wherein the front wheel now extends, increasing the radius of curvature and because they've sat up, the height of the CofG. At bicycle speeds this can become oscillatory, and before he knows it he's into a 'tank slapper', then a tree.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
