A very interesting concept - do we really think that the "west" would be a better place without a strategic counterbalance but instead a massively overpolluted wasteland in the east?

    **** that.

No war in Korea, no war in Vietnam, no war in Afganistan, no war in Iraq. Millions saved from death in the gullag. No millions of AK47s in Africa. Strategic counterbalance has hardly been a positive thing

True, but prevailing winds from the east over western Europe in winter blowing the fallout over from the soviet union, major traffic in immigrants from the irradiated east?

We just had mini nukes then. Japan is hardly a fallout zone and nobody would have wanted to walk over a bombed out Europe to the west.

True, possibly, about no-one wanting to walk over a bombed-out Europe, but surely if you can't eat the food because it's had the living tulipe irradiated out of it you'd want to move towards where the food's safer?

If the west bombed them then surely they would move east, the ruskies had no problem about starving berlin, they were at it from VE day. We should have just given them as good as they gave.

Wars would still have occurred, it is a natural human condition, many suggest that humans are genetically selected to survive in an environment of continuous warfare.

Peace is an unnatural state for human society, it requires conflict, otherwise it becomes decadent.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
