That's another gem; anyone who thinks the Mosel region only makes terrible cheapo wines is very mistaken; some of the very best dry Rieslings are from Mosel.

Just do a google picture search of Luxembourg and you'll see.

Yeah actually you're right; the entire Benelux is a third rate tuliphole and British tourists are well advised to avoid it. Most of Germany's pretty tulip too, Switzerland and Austria are hideous, Italy's a complete tip, Slovenia and Croatia are simply awful and in fact there's really nowhere worth visiting until you reach your 2 star all-meals-included appartment in Crete.

        Mich,

have you driven from Frankfurt to Koblenz, along the river (whichever one it is, apologies for being a philostine), amazing drive, loads of castles along the river and scenery, it's kind of like the wye valley x 10.

anyway, in Koblenz the river to frankfurt meets to Mosel, amazing to look at the join from the castle above, you are correct those mosel reislings are fantastic, have one in the fridge at home at the moment and boxes in the cellar

another interesting place in germany is the friedrickshaven area, fantastic wine villages down there, and of course, a short hop from strasbourg and the alsace region

I have to say folks, if you like driving, and you like fine architecture, countryside, cultures, cuisine, wine and ale, then europe is a fascinating continent to have the chance to live in

        Milan.
