No, there is a point, but in most calculations people fail to take into account tax -- getting 5k raise over 30k is much bigger raise than getting 5k over 35k. What this means is that those who earn 35k in the Midlands would NOT be better off getting extra 5k in London. And I am pretty sure like for like you won't get more than 7k in London, which IMO will be totally used up in increased costs of living and actually cost more. -

apart from house prices / rents, it is a myth that living in London is more expensive than living elsewhere
For a start, you don't need a car and I'd say you probably spend less in transport costs than in any other cityChico, what time is it?Comment

I think you can see the gap in the higher positions. Perhaps for an average job if you take 30k outside London and 35-40k in London it doesn't make a difference, but there are many jobs in London which pays considerably more than that up to 100k. I doubt you can find anything anywhere near that outside London.Originally posted by AtWOk, what is the increase in salary for like-for-like job in London and outside of it?I've seen much of the rest of the world. London pub prices are just crazy, restaurants want to charge you £15 for a starter, a taxi costs the earth.
Take trip up north and see what I mean.Comment

That's because you are a man. I am sure Mrs Rebecca play the "gentle sex" trick with the other sex and gets everything paid so she can build her own empire.Originally posted by DimPrawnHave to disagree Ms Loos.
