I saw a piece on the BBC news this morning and the Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw absolutely loved it, he said he felt embarrassed about how much he enjoyed it.

Bloody hell, it's not in B&W and there's no subtitles either... must be good!!
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Jeez. Presumably she manages to look hot during those two minutes?

Is it an independent story? I mean, would you understand what's going on not having seen a single Star Trek episode/movie before?

Yes you will understand it - but you may miss some of the jokes and references, but it won't spoil your enjoyment

Well there is a giant alien creature in it!

                  You've been "re-envisioned"

                  EDIT: here you are (SFW)

I had yesterday off so managed to catch the first showing at my local cinema (benefit: nice and quiet, I hate going in the evenings/weekends with the rest of the population).

Absolutely stunning, I loved every minute and had a smile on my face for most of the film.
