      1. Penalised severely
      2. Regulated heavily

In answer to item 1., I was told that the disclaimers on their valuations were bomb-proof and in answer to item 2. I was on a conference call last year from Hong Kong in which one of the EMEA MDs had the brass neck to suggest that unless primary legislation was brought before Parliament he didn't see why they should be regulated.

Bloody good job I was 12 hours flight-time away; there may've been some blood on the carpet (and me in jail for GBH) if I'd been in the same room as him when he'd said it.

On the upside, for those of us who are model builders (note: not Airfix) we're getting lots of work from this cock-up. Up until now we've had the problem of insufficient bads to be able to build models from ... not now

Cool; someone will have to test these models. May I suggest that that someone is an objective, independent tester who has not worked for or holds no investment in any of the parties involved in this credit rating and stress testing business?

I think I know such a chap. Quite expensive mind you, but cheapness always leads to depravation and so on

Mon ami, I'll bear you in mind, but we're knee-deep in mathematicians and statisticians (like-what-I-is) at the moment. If you were looking for a role of that sort I know that Fortis (in your neck of the woods?) were looking for a model validation engineer.

No, f**k it, it’s boring anyway. Unless they’re paying a tulipload of money.

Ah well ... it's cool because for most of us we look on it as being a cool research exercise with some tulip hot data - it's just like an extension of university.

                Yay, some doom

                http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8034260.stm

It is too early to assume the swine flu outbreak is a mild infection just because no-one in the UK has died, England's chief medical officer says.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Does anyone really think Fiat have the money to buy the British car industry. They must be getting the money from somewhere

These people are not silly enough to take Fiat shares are they

That’s a bit like saying ‘it’s too early to assume Putin hasn’t fired a nuclear weapon at us because it’ll take ten minutes for it to get here’. Just pointless speculation. I thought that was what bankers did; we don’t need doctors joining in the pseudoscientific guff.

I suspect that Fiat may be getting a bung from the US for taking Chrysler.
