    Brazil is ace !
Only visited, a while back but found the people very hospitable and friendly. Apparently the muggers will let you keep a bus fare home if you ask nicely

I've worked in both Brazil & Uruguay- of the two I had a better time in Uruguay although compared to somewhere like Croydon either is acceptable

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Oi. I was born in Croydon. I also live and work in Croydon.

Yeah you're right. It is a right dump.

Can't change where I was born but trying to change the other two.

Columbia itself is fantastic, Bogota is the worst bit!

Rubbish !! I stayed at a great hotel in North Bogota and visited the central area every night which is full of great modern bars, restaurants and a casino. The Candelaria area has fantastic historic Spanish architecture and some very interesting museums. The police museum with histories on drug battles, independence museum where the freedom fighters organised themselves, and art museum were enormously interesting.

I will also add that in Bogota, police are always visible on the streets, and the army are also positioned to add security. I felt safer there than I would have done walking the backstreets of Croydon !!!

Dude, I been three time and stayed in various parts of it. Yeah there are some good parts - very few cities don't have good parts, but overall it's mainly a sh!thole, and it's very feckin dangerous. I saw a knife fight when I was there - well if you can call a guy chasing another guy with a machette a knife fight, I met several people who got mugged and my missus got pickpocketed!

Cartagena, Cali & Medillin etc are all way better and all the beaches up around the caribbean coast are phenomenal (As are some of the jungle treks).

I got mugged in Rio by the drug in drink ruse 10 years ago, but never had any problems in Bogota, but there are certain areas that you should avoid at night such as Candaleria(take advice from Lonely Planet etc), and always use a taxi. They are only 2 quid into the city. Never show valuables or overtly show/use cameras in side-streets and only carry what you intend to spend. Just use commonsense and you will have no problems.

I have to say I'm impressed by Cyber-Tory's aversion to personal abuse. He may publish opinions here that others can' t stomach (myself included), but at least he doesn't resort to abusive stuff. Well, not from what I've seen anyway
