You want amazing architecture, great nightlife ect then go to Cartagena - tulips all over Bogota in every respect.

I was particularly struck by the architectural beauty of Candelaria. The north of Bogota is the wealthy area so most buildings are modern brick properties and it is thus also the best place to stay for security. Cartagena is definitely on my future list !!

They are only 2 quid into the city. Never show valuables or overtly show/use cameras in side-streets and only carry what you intend to spend. Just use commonsense and you will have no problems.

I saw a knife fight when I was there - well if you can call a guy chasing another guy with a machette a knife fight, I met several people who got mugged and my missus got pickpocketed!

Cartagena, Cali & Medillin etc are all way better and all the beaches up around the caribbean coast are phenomenal (As are some of the jungle treks).

I will also add that in Bogota, police are always visible on the streets, and the army are also positioned to add security. I felt safer there than I would have done walking the backstreets of Croydon !!!
