Not exactly working with all of them

Of course it won't with all of them - but it worked well over long period of time with those who are likely to matter insofar UK national interests are concerned.

That guy you quote is either an idiot or lieing - that arrest at Liverpool was done very professionally and nobody got killed, do you think something like this would have been done as well in Pakistan for example or some other country?

Granted, not everyone will like to live in this country (I do like it a lot) but they have option to leave and find some other country, so it sounds like a pretty fair deal.

        ---

This clever system certainly worked for me - it is only when my first year in Uni here was over and I had to go back home I felt that I liked it (apart from exams).

And why isn't nicking road cones and roadworks lights and putting them on famous statues around your host city good enough for the students of today? Ooh yes. with their laptops and their Starbucks lattes and their en-suite accommodation. Pampered, that's the problem with 'em.

Phil Woolas, the Immigration Minister, has described the student visa system as "the major loophole in Britain's border controls".

Here's a crazy idea to close that loophole - if Mr Mohamed from Pakistan border region applies for a student visa, you might want to check him out a bit. Or is that not allowed? Perhaps UK should instead ban all Chinese applicants so as not to offend.
Erm, but aren't the loopholes there for this reason: that occasionally they can then round up people with beards and dusky skin to keep you in a constant state of fear?

It's probably all a load of bollocks anyway.

I fully expect it to drop out of the media with nothing heard again as they release all those arrested on the sly when they find no evidence. At the worst I expect them to just "happen to find" some kiddie porn on the computers of a couple of them to justify the whole operation and prove how bad these people really are......

              You saw it here first.

7/7 terrorists were local with british passports - it's much harder get warrants on UK/EU citizens than foreign national, essentially you want terrorists to try to go via student channels rather than recruit UK citizens which would be much harder to deal with.

"This has totally changed what I have learned about this country and my time here," he said. "They are clearly identifying Muslim students. It's a big insult … The first thing I will do is leave this country as soon as possible. The police officer said your country [Pakistan] is not secure but I still prefer to live there. I love my country."
Does he need a lift to the airport?

We may aswell admit it. We're at war with a section of Pakistan society.

Even the the Americans are way ahead of us and started to refer to Afghanistan as the 'Af-Pak' war.So why give visa's to our enemies?

And while we're at it close down all of the crappy new universities.

Such students are ideal target for MI5/6 recruiting - they obviously don't talk about it.
