They don't care about the consequences because there aren't any (apart from death if you go TOO far). If on the other hand if you got drunk and had to go to hospital, but got charged say, £50 for having a drink-related problem, then maybe people would think twice?

I am not sure about that, same as I am not sure that simply increasing the price of alcohol would make a lot of difference.

Interesting concept SAS. I reckon it could fly with the electorate too... if you want treatment then sign this form....you'll be sent the bill later. Seems fair to me....course if you're innocently having a beer and someone cracks a bottle over your head then you might be a little narked...however I guess that is when you sue the assailant in the civil courts?

Well call it £100 then or any figure that really hurts in the pocket.
Then, there's only so many trophies one can afford
And at least repeat offenders will be paying for their bad habits so the rest of us don't have to.

I'm not sure paying would really help. At home in Ireland, if you want to see your GP, you pay... about €50 but depends on Dr. If you need a prescription filling you pay for that too and not a standard charge either, it varies.

If you go to A&E and need an x-ray (or any treatment), you pay for that too.

Doesn't stop all the binge drinking chavs ending up in A&E on a Friday and Saturday night.

If you're going to do it, saddle them with the whole bill. £1500 for treatment (or whatever) would be a whole lot more of a deterrent.
