My bother was a campaign manager for the SNP and a very good one, I would get drafted in to do IT support for them and met Mr & Mz fish on several occasions. Bunch of little thugs the 2 of them.

Having said that my other brother was a bookmaker and Galloway's campaign manager told him he was getting a kicking because he never let him place a bet after the post. My brother kicked him out the shop.

If you're such a pusillanimous myopic toom-tabard scaredy-cat that you don't think Scots can run a country, and need the English to do it for them, vote with your feet. Go to England. I wouldn't recommend, e.g. Denmark, where you would want to tell them that they should really be run from Berlin; or Portugal which would naturally be better managed by Madrid; or Belgium where naturally Amsterdam's writ should run. Every one of those would send you packing with a flea in your ear, and they wouldn't have to check GDP tables first.

A rather depressing post expat. GB has been a unitary state for 300 years, the examples you cite have not.

Why does it provoke such a reaction to indicate a preference for one british politician over another and/or a preference for keeping a unitary state?

I know a lot of scots nats (past and present plus some high heid yins) and they are no different from any other myopic ethnic nationalists that you can find in many countries. From my experience, the quality newspaper essays and economic rationalisations are just window dressing for something a bit less wholesome.

Your reaction is veering pretty close to "if you don't like it here then why don't you f**k off" and that surprises me a bit.

It has clearly escaped your attention that there is ample evidence from what has happened over the last 12 years that the Scottish haven't the first clue how to run a country - since the Scottish have dominated the front bench of the labour party for all of that time.

Spent many years living in fishing villages, Pittenweem in Fife and then Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Neither places has a fishing industry now.

On the topic of Scotland I am consistently embarrassed by my so called nation, Glasgow was quite rightly called the second city of the Empire, now it is a dump, 25% of the population are on benefits.

I feel sorry for the English being subjected to our socialist politicians.

I'd probably struggle myself to find one, but I distinctly remember using my phrase about our fisheries vs French farmland at least twice before; and although I may have been the most eloquent and insightful, I was not alone.
