Anyone worked there? What's it like? Is it safe, or are you running the risk of being shot by nutters? Do they tolerate boozing and stuff?

Spent a brief 10 days there back in 1994. Stayed at a plush place in Doha (Sheraton?) and it was possible to get a drink there in a side room which was hidden away behind a load of curtains. It was very safe back then and they seemed reasonably friendly towards westerners. Mind you, it was a long time ago so feelings may have changed, although the first Gulf War did not seem to faze them over much.Originally posted by cybersquatter View PostAnyone worked there? Qatar is safe. They like Brits and Americans as they see us as there consumers.
Very laid back people and hospitable.
Just dont do anything anti islamic and use common sense and its a decent enough place. EXTREMELY wealthy! I mean I went there around 2 years back and you know you have stepped off onto something else when there are lines of Ferrari's inside the Airport for sale - along with Bentley GT's.
Stinks of money!
