    There are cnuts everywhere!

Went to do some trucking today to save the savings from being eroded while on the bench.

Had to do an assessment drive first, not one of my favourite things to do but I'll jump though the hoops for some cash-o-la. The wannabe examiner failed me for "almost hitting a kerb". In his words "I didn't think you'd fit through that gap but you did ... was convinced you were going to hit the kerbs".

I asked him if I hit the kerbs and he said no but that wasn't the point. "I didn't think you'd make it." Bloody jobs worth. Actually not all that bad - technically it was a free ride around in a lorry I'm a bit rusty after 18 months of sitting in a cushy office :-(

Jeez..don't tell this to the IR I'll get done for almost not filling in a tax return.

If its is what actually getting a non contractor job is like I can really see how the life on benefits appeals.

£140 ish for a weekday self employed. Not great. But if I do 4 days a week and have a long weekend it leaves the war chest intact for real doom!

I only have to do 9 days a month to have the bills paid. Certainly could be a lot worse.

I need the licence for my contracting work but it also comes in handy as a nice plan B as well.

Is it just me who thinks that is totally wrong. Who cares wht he thought? The fact is, you judged that you could get through and did. That's like saying I thought the lights were about to go red and you didn't stop. Had you actually hit the kerb then his reasoning would have been sound but obviously the distance between the kerbs was greater than the width of the lorry. Tell him to reconsider and if he doesn't park it on him.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

              I preferred version 1!

for £140 you are better off contracting with the bigger courier companies that are actually doing well. With overtime can easily take £250 a day

2 weeks training. 1 week for you Cat C (rigid lorries) 3-4 days for you Cat C+E (artics)

Both cost about the same to pass at £1500 each.

The work depends where you live. I live in Leicester at the is work, like anything at the moment there is not buckets of it about but there is still some there.

All the agencies at the moment are only taking on skilled engineers and class C+E drivers so shows there is still some demand.

how can a truck driver self employed

sounds like a good case for ir35

surely you can only drive one truck at a time and therefore only have one client at a time ?
