If every clientCo started doing that, then what would happen to those thousands of people who come in london everyday from the likes Campbridge,Bedford, Brighton etc

Feel sorry for you though.....Best of luck anyways....
I don’t see how ‘starving the provinces’ fits into any ‘sustainable development’ policy.

I will; I'll commute from B&B to work on a bicycle and from home to B&B on the train, but it doesn’t make a difference. They judge their ‘carbon footprint’ by measuring the distance people travel. As I say, according to their policies if you come from 49 kms away in the bloody SS Britannia your ‘carbon footprint’ is supposedly less than someone travelling 51 kms in a solar powered car.

It's obviously a KPI, and of course KPIs are the be all and end all of large organisations.

You can almost get them on discrimination with this.

Lets say the client co was 50km's away from the border of another country - they are in essence ensuring that no one from the other country can work there even if they have the correct documentation.

Problem is the reason they have given is the good old carbon footprint bobbins which will no doubt allow them to discrimate willy nilly

What about Fat people - they are heavier and so maybe you can only employ fat people who live up to 40kms away etc etc etc etc

I just received a phone call from an agent who says her Client won’t consider me for the role because I 'live too far away and would increase ClientCo’s carbon footprint'. I said I always travel by train and stay in B&Bs close to ClientCo, but to no avail; ClientCo has a policy not to hire people from more than 50kms away due to environmental concerns. ClientCo did however say that my CV fit the role almost perfectly and they “regret this decision”.

So should I conclude they’re happy to have an unsuitable numpty who lives 49kms away and drives into work in a Hummer, but not a suitably qualified person from 100kms away who uses the train?

This is the weirdest rejection reason I’ve ever heard.
This is the biggest load of arse I've heard of in a long time - on the other hand you could see it as a lucky escape - what kind of a gang of morons are they likely to be to work for if they come up with this twaddle?

Ring the paper though - it'd make a great news story.
