I know very few bikers who'd go that fast with anyone on the back without the right gear on in what looks like poor weather conditions let alone their own son.

I am a biker, have been for many years and regularly give it "serious beans".

Totally agree with sentence, if he's a good chap he'll be out much sooner.

Think the real question at play here is who can some sentences be so lenient rather than his so harsh.

I think he was lucky to get away with 6 months.
His son wasn't wearing any protective gear bar a helmet, not even gloves.

My opinion, as a biker, is that 6 months is about right...
      Older and ...well, just older!!

I'm wondering if you read the article?

He DID endanger his son (who was on the back of the bike at the time).

No, I didn't, this is CUK, a half grasp of the facts usually is enough
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

yep, this is the much bigger question.

for the original point, the guy was entirely in the wrong, but I don't know how to quantify it into a sentence. I agree he should get something.

I wonder what kind of sentence he would have got if they did crash and the boy was killed.
