Not going to be taking her anywhere near a handbag shop if it can be helped. But thanks all the same.
Longleat's too far out (man), I think we'll stay in the city.Comment

I've just checked their website and they don't seem to have the Dr Who exhibition any more.Originally posted by Gonzo View PostThey used to have a Dr Who exhibition there, I got to wear Tom Baker's scarf!
That was 25 years ago though, things might have changed a bit in the interim.
They do have Postman Pat's village, that's progress for you I suppose.

My last contract was in Bath, but I couldn't be bothered to see much, and didn't have time really, plus I've seen most of them there before.Originally posted by realityhack View Post...Bath
Passed through the place many times on the train but never stopped. This weekend we're off to stay in a posh spa hotel and mosey around the city, just for something different to do.
Apart from the obvious (Spas, health boutiques etc), any must-do recommendations from the congregation?
Obviously visit the Roman baths themselves, and the nearby modern equivalent the Thermae Bath Spa (http://www.thermaebathspa.com). I imagine you need swimming trunks for that.
Also, the American Museum and gardens might be good (http://www.americanmuseum.org).
Oh and the Regency tea rooms would be worth a visit. I think they're part of the Jane Austen centre (http://www.janeausten.co.uk).
Also, up the hill, I'd recommend Beckford's Tower, build in the early 19th C by a rich eccentric called William Beckford.
Worth seeing the Crescent as well, the famous curved terrace of large ornate buildings.Work in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

My home town as it happens so don't really know about the touristy things to do 'cos you never actually do them when you come from a place do you?
I have done the Spa though & thought it was excellent, well worth the money.
As far as pubs go, you can't do much better than this one:

My brother is at the uni. He'd recommend the on-campus nightclub for Saturday night, or maybe downing a bottle of vodka between 4 in the kitchen followed by Po~na~na.
I'd probably recommend

You could annoy the guide at the Roman Baths. I did when he said that all the statues round the bath were of roman emperors, Ceasar and Agricola were not emperors. HTHBut I discovered nothing else but depraved, excessive superstition. Pliny the youngerComment
