Not everything a church does is about God, sometimes it's just about the church.

As the Church of Scotland minister who married us said on the question of being married other than in church, "you can get married wherever you like, and I'm not going to say that God's not there. The question is whether I will be there".

The general synod are meeting today and one item on the agenda is membership of the BNP by the clergy. Now I think this epitomises everything I hate about organised religion, I mean, if there is a God, and you have faith, it's going to be pretty difficult to hide your opinions, membership or not just is not going to fool the big fella.
      ...
You might as well say that if God exists then He (?) exists whether we believe in Him or not. So an atheist should have just as much chance of going to Heaven.

PS: as someone said, when I entered the Pearly Gates and gazed upon God, I got a big surprise. She's black.

thats exactly the point. If someone can read your thoughts, what you do and what you say are trivial diversions from the truth. If you are a member of something against your will, or if you want to join but don't, in order to appear pure, you have to know that the bearded one knows the truth, and will act accordingly when the time comes.

I could be convinced if it meant eternal happiness. Then again, christianity doesn't have the 72 virgins does it?

I'll cross that bridge when it comes to it...

But one would presume that the thought of joining the BNP due to one's frustrations in one's local community fits into the 'temptation' category. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't give in to temptation. The act of joining the BNP, thereby actively supporting and financing their activities, or indeed casting one's vote for them is surely a different matter?

It's not as if I'm good at this theology thing, but I can try.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

I'm sure thats a line from a song.

                Anyone know which one?

Oh, and I agree no place for BNP in any religion - they should be chucked out.
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

                  Ah, another deathbed conversion
You must have faith, my son, and convert now.
                  (the old jam tomorrow argument)

P.S. I think it's only Muslim martyrs who get the virgins, not everyone.
