Plan B – WxMan on CH4 Cutting Edge 12th Feb @ 21:00
Now there's a Plan B, what are those big bubble things that you roll down hills in? Zorbs or something, get an extra padded one and let yourself be sucked into the air as the storm passes. What a ride.
Insurance might be difficult though.
I'm sure there's a really good reason not to try this - something to do with air pressure changes or something but it does sound like fun...
"See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."
Just to give some background to the Cutting Edge production…
As some of you know my hobby – passion? Is severe weather One of the reasons why I keep Contracting is so that I can take May and September off to chase bad weather – so when Ch4 approached me and asked “Will you take us Storm chasing with you? – we will pay, and what’s your fee! (can’t quote the exact fee I negotiated – but with the wedding coming up it was a SIGNIFICANT slice off the total bill!!)
Anyway the programme is sort of a “year in the life of” type thing – CH4 followed me to Taiwan for Typhoon Karosa, Tornados across the great plains of America and then getting into the Eye of Hurricane Gustav on the Mississippi Delta , South west of New Orleans.
There is plenty of (first hand!) dramatic Weather footage there! But this is then balanced against home and work life of a normal “IT contractor” who somehow manages to persuade his wife (to be) into letting him put himself in harms way to experience his passion – the weather.
LOL we evened filmed at a clients site at I was at.
All this started off as a way to fund a few weather trips now it seems to be gathering pace - is this a good thing I wonder ??
Anyway I just had a peak in a few TV guides in the local newsagents – many of which are running “A very British storm Junkie” as a “pick of the day” so the reviewers must see something in the production that they like?
"Based in Leicestershire with long-suffering fiancée Alison, Stuart Robinson's interest in storms was sparked by the 90s Hollywood blockbuster, Twister. He saw his first tornado in 1998 and, over the last ten years, storm chasing has become a full-blown obsession for Stuart - he's chased 30 tornados and six hurricanes so far. But last year he set himself the ultimate storm chaser's goal of experiencing the eye of a monster hurricane for himself, where the 150mph-plus winds, capable of flattening buildings, drop to a dead calm. It's something few people would do through choice, and which promises serious personal danger. To achieve this holy grail he must defeat the odds, defy the authorities and runs the risk of stormy weather on the home front as his wedding to Alison approaches."
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
