Well, thats how I surf "banned" sites at client co anyway.

And on some client sites that's a guaranteed security escort to the site exit, do not get timesheet signed, do not collect £XXXXX, do collect shreds of contract for gross misconduct.

Bypassing client internet access restrictions is begging for termination unless specifically cleared by the client manager in writing.

I've seen it done and in fact had to boot people off site who were bypassing firewall restrictions by various methods.

Edit: I assume you would use your own laptop for that?

Last clientco disabled all USB stick usage recently - nightmare.

You could try running the Psiphon web proxy server on a pc at home over broadband (you'd need to run it on port 80 though) - great fun to use.

Stick Joikuspot on your 3G phone to turn it into a wi-fi hotspot and use your own laptop (not connected to the client network natch) to surf away. That's what I do.

That assumes that non client equipment is allowed on site which it often isn't at least at many of the clients where I have worked.

As someone who's had to work on network security projects proxy browsing is a great way to get permies on a final warning and contractors instantly terminated if the IT policies are written by anyone with a functioning braincell.
