...to the OP, just keep in your mind that few people here have the first clue about anything related to economics, and there are a number of sad and lonely people here who wallow in any bad news wherever they can find it. So take comments and "advice" with the appropriate pinch of salt - you will very clearly see who they are.

What differs in this recession from previous ones is that business are even more reliant on IT than they were in the past, so people like you will be the first to emerge from it. Companies will begin pulling in contractors again long before the media start saying the turnaround has started, depending on what sector you are in of course.

One good thing about recessions is that, like estate agents, the more useless and unprofessional of pimps get cast aside. From that respect it is a cleansing process that was long overdue.
