    Oh stop whinging... contractors on £300+ are probably in the top 1-2% of the nation, income-wise. If you haven't saved up a big nest-egg that's you fault for living too extravagently.

                Should have got a better lawyer. Or hidden money offshore. But even if you lost 50% very recently, or 100% a year or 2 back, a decent day-rate would leave you a fair savings pot if you scaled back your lifestyle when realising you'd become poor, IF you weren't benched AND big child support wasn't involved?
