Yes, the Scripps researchers in the USA suggest that the lack of exposure to bacteria and viruses means the immune system does not work hard enough, creating a condition known as lymphopenia, where there is a reduction in the number of T cells in the body.

They suggest people with autoimmune diseases like Type 1 diabetes, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis often have low T cell numbers.

They say it might be possible to reduce the chance that people will become ill by "priming" the immune system with germs...

...Let your kids eat dirt basically.

So would you agree with me then?
I think many modern unexplained raises in the occurence of some diseases is caused by over cautiousness from modern parenting.
A modern obsession with cleanliness, anti bacterial this and anti fungal that, has left generations unexposed to minor threats which would have built up their immune systems to be more capable when a serious threat comes along.

True, but perhaps not the best thing in a special care baby unit where the babies are weak to start with - hence the special care bit. Also, why are strangers allowed in the special care baby unit? When my son was small he had a number of occasions where he had to stay in hospital. Every time he was on a ward where the nurses had to let you in. Strangers could not simply walk up to have a look at the sprogs.

The human rights thing is bolloxs. How soon till the local Chav slappers get to grips with this one.

"He was lukin at Chardonay and as infringed er uman rites. I want me compo for me white lighting and bling and fags. Its only fair init." etc
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

        I preferred version 1!

Sorry Tony, hadn't read the "special care" bit, must have missed it. No in that case then protect them, but I was making a general point.
I dont think any Tom Dick or Harry should be allowed to just wander up to anybodies baby, but complete isolation is a nonsense.

"If a baby I was cooing over asked me to stop because I was infringing on their human rights then I would"

              I bloody well would too
