Green innovations will probably be the driver of the next economic upswing as we equip ourselves with green cars, houses etc etc.

Green cars are supposed to be unlucky. Ever since Mike Hawthorn killed himself in one, I think.

It's also a good idea that for example, when hurricane damage costs increase even though there's less hurricanes it's not because "climate change made them stronger" but because more people and buildings are located in hurricane areas. Or that the coastal regions are dying due much, much more to pollution than any AGW. Or perhaps that bio-fuels cause starvation. That we are in the middle of a global extinction event not due to a bit of CO2 but because there's too many people.

Yep, and green fuels use a lot more water in their production than non-renewables, and of course the land that could otherwise be used for crops. All this still speaks in favour of diversification of energy supplies though.

Actually the best way to slow population growth is possibly to get people to live in big crowded cities; urbanisation is usually accompanied by a fall in birth rates.

If Al Gore and the scientific community are wrong, but we follow their advice anyway, then we will be using a more diversified source of fuel, and have less dependence on the Middle East, Russia, Venezuela and potentially the US.

All I know is it was -7 driving in this morning, and now at lunchtime it's only -1. So that's 6 degrees C in only 4 hours. If things carry on like this, we'll all be toast by Friday.
