I generally vote for Andyw, but in this case it was a clear no vote.

He was stupid enough to speculate on shares and now expects a payout on a bankrupted and failed investment.

He deserves to lose the lot.

If I vot yes and NR shareholders get their losses made good, does that mean all my shares / bonds / etc. that have tanked over the past year also get a bail out?

I speculated and lost a couple of k. I knew it was risky, and if the company had collapsed and I'd lost the money then fair enough.

What no one could foresee, however, was that the government would pass a new law effectivly allowing them to steal the shares with no compensation. IMHO that is wrong. It's like your mortgage lender turning around and saying, well there's no way you could afford to have this house without our loan, so we're reposessing it.....

Of course, they've shot themselves in the foot a bit bailing out all the other banks.

I believe what would be 'fair' and what is likely to happen (I hope) is that the government will pay out the value of the shares when they were seized.

They will probably have to do it but likely to use courts to delay for a long as possible - when Nu Liebor pulled this trick with Railtrack it was clear to me that they can't be trusted not to do it again. Railtrack lawsuit focussed on other things than amount that is due to be repaid, so I actually think in this case shareholders might be successful even though I think the hedge funds that took part in this speculation got what they deserved but this totally screwed long term shareholders.

NR should have been allowed to go bust with Govt guaranting all savers.
