    A lot of it's business has been taken over by online downloads, iTunes...
    only money I guess they are making is selling games, but even
    buying these on the internet is cheaper.

      <Drum roll for pun of the year ..>

      I suppose Richard Branson was very "Savvy" for selling to Zavvi.

      <Ba-dum Kisshhhh !>

            I saw on the news last night that the cheapo mens clothing store 'Officers Club' has gone into administration as well, 150 shops closing. This is the shop though that always seemed to have a perminant closing down sale so it could just be a lie but it was on news 24

              I remember about six/seven years ago The Officers Club actually had some good stuff, but one day walked in there and it was awful - never found a reason to buy anything in their since.

              I have a gut feeling that Zavvi will survive - I think they just went into administration to protect themselves over the coming months.

                But who shops in there? As Lilelvis said, it's so overpriced.

                  3-5 years from now and most music/DVD will be sold over the Net - the model will change completely by being able to pay £15-20 subscription and basically get unlimited access to complete library of music/watch as much as you want.

                  This wil require cutting out all middlemen, probably including labels.

                    It's one good thing about a recession. Shaking out the weak players. I always wondered how long high street shops selling online goods would last.

                    Thing is there is still the browsability factor. If you know what you want to buy, are willing to wait and not have it immediately then anyone vaguely computer literate will buy it online.

                    Personally for music I download it all illegally. Mostly the same for DVDs although due to the size I sometimes buy it to avoid waiting. Find DVDs annoying though and pirated avis are easier to use. They load up quicker, no need to mess about with putting a physical disk in, easier to share with friends, can transport on a USB stick.

                    For books I buy 90% in stores and 10% online. Mainly because when I generally don't have a particular book in mind so I go and browse and buy what I feel like. Saving a couple of quid isn't a big deal so I just pick it up immediately.

                    Same for games although I'm a very casual gamer so I imagine anyone serious would know exactly what they want.

                      Napster have already done that, but I think a lot of people are put off by not 'owning' the music
