          I use:
          Windows Live Messenger
          Yahoo Instant Messenger
          Skype

I wish I could get my various contacts to use the same one

I've never used any form of IM, because, quite frankly, they are an annoying, intrusive invasion of my time.

The phone is bad enough, but having IM open as well in the middle of working on my PC, and then getting some irritating pop up saying "X wants to chat" sounds like my own personal idea of hell.

Bob : Hi, it's me, Bob ! How are you ?
            Me : Fine thanks. U ?
            Bob : Yeah I'm great.

            <5 mins pass>

            Bob : U still there ?
            Me : Yes, why ?
Bob : I thought you wanted to chat ?
Me : You're the dipstick who messaged me, remember ?
Bob : Oh..I just wondered how you were
Me : Like I said, fine. At least I was. Now I am not so fine.
            Bob : Oh ? Wassssssssupppp ? :-) :-)
            Me : Yooooooooooouuuuuuu :-(
            Bob : Me ?
            Me : Yes U
            Bob : Why ?
Me : Because this conversation is pointless. It's completely inane. It's a waste of my precious time. Obviously time is not that precious to you.
Bob : Don't be like that ! I just wondered how you were and wanted to chat.
Me : Aha. So you decided that because you wanted to chat, you'd PM me ?
Bob : Yup. Wanna chat ?
            Me : No. Pi55 off.
            Bob : Oh that's nice !
Me : Okay. I apologise for being blunt and rude. Communication is an important thing in relationships, be they work, social or marital. So, what did u want to chat about ?
Bob : Er....nothing really. Just wanted to "connect" really.
            Me : Can I make a suggestion ?
            Bob : Sure, nps !
Me : Next time you want to connect, why don't you stick your tongue in a plug socket ?
Bob : Why on earth would I do that ?
Mr : Because I wouldn't have to listen to your inane drivel ever again.
Bob : Whoooa, I was only trying to be sociable.
Me : I know. I just cannot help being sociopathic in return. This IM malarkey brings out the worst in me, I'm afraid.
Bob : Oh really ? Why is that

Me : Because your sitting in the fething cubicle opposite to me !

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
