          The lst time I installed messenger and skype onto my PC I slowed it to an arthritic crawl....

          I would use Google chat as it doesn't install software (I don't think).

          But since no-one contacts me using this mode of communication it's all rather academic...

                Skype and MSN (various clients - Adium, WLM, Windows messenger depends where I am).

                I don't know anybody who uses google chat.
