Cycle in Rochdale...ya gotta be nuts! In London, yes! in Manchester, only with body armor. In Rochdale, no chance!

Ah, right, so it's fear that keeps you in your car?

Cycle 14 miles each way?! And I assume it's not exactly an idyllic tow-path, traffic-free route...

          Yes!

I was an avid cyclist..I cycled over 100km each Saturday in Canada in addition to the weekday cycling...but there isn't the cyclist ignorance there that exists here. I've seen and heard of the accidents here...sorry I'm out.

It would take about an hour at a relaxed speed. Traffic is just something you have to handle, same as you do in a car.

I dunno. It's up to people to decide for themselves what they're scared of and what they aren't scared of. I've been knocked off my bike once in something like 35 years of regular cycling and that wasn't too bad.

I've only been knocked off a bike once, almost 30 years ago, still paying the price because of the damage a kerb did to my front teeth.

Used to cycle all the time until I was about 18, then decided a car was a much better proposition. Admittedly it wasn't the fear of getting knocked off my bike again that convinced me, but the girlfriend at the time promising all sorts of naughtyness if I got a car. One of the best decisions I've ever made!

Though the decision to dump her a few months later was perhaps my worst. It's true, you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone.

If anyone on here thinks the Manchester congestion zone will improve public transport, they are sadly deluded.

Its a tax like any other tax, sold on false promises and enviromentalism.
The govt. are short of money and they will use any way they can to get it. If they cared about the environment they wouldnt be building another runway at Heathrow or a new coal power station.

Anyone who gets the Northern Line into London every day, tell me your journey has improved as a result of the congestion charge.

does it run frequently enough for people to use it?

                      Yawn

Another voting exercise for the proles. Keeps 'em busy before the X factor comes on the telly.

'Our' Government has already decided to roll out a national road pricing over the course of the next decade.
