How do you get Fail?
I thought it might be Fool, which is a desert (as in strawberry fool), and turfing is a vernacular for covering something up, i.e. fooling people.Comment

That would cover the "desert" bit ok.
"Turf" is slang for "to displace or eject", which could mean fail I suppose. As in "turf out the poor performers"?Comment
