Nah, it's far more grown up to have a global war.

But having done a deal, there were still jackboots marching across Europe, and heavy water factories were being built. Something just as bad as the Soviet army would have been only 22 miles away.

        Thermo-nuclear war. Pretty nasty.

Fission bombs came first. Had these bombs been in Germany's possession, we would have (presumably) surrendered, and been occupied by Germany. The fittest side won. Would this have been any worse than being invaded by the Romans? Many millions of innocents may have been saved from being killed in a global war, but a minority may or may not have met a gruesome end.

Only really nasty if you are not near the epicentre.

You're speculating then saying we're not allowed to speculate. It's silly and I'm not playing any more.

You can speculate if you like, but why should I be the one putting effort into doing it?

                  Retaliation

If we had greeted the Huns with Guten Morgen instead of a barrage of gunfire then we would have had a Europe united under one totalitarian governement with limted regional autonomy, trade agreements and possibly a single currency.

Only real difference I can see is that the seat of power would be in Berlin and not Brussells
