You're new in this game aren't you. All contract agency interviews are a complete waste of time. As for the reference bit, this really gives it away. Agents (and clients) get kicks out of seeing desperate work seekers jumping through hoops and singing like canaries for imaginary jobs. Keep your pride and just say no.

NO, 3 yrs contracting and my last agency interview was followed immediately by a walk to the client offices and a "proper" interview, followed by an immediate job offer. You're new in this game aren't you. Thats actually the only reason i asked, because they gave me the same reason for meeting my as the above one which was genuine (to make sure i didnt smell of feaces and didnt have bogies hanging out of my nose i guess).Comment

Under compliance they might try to say Employment Agency regs (if you're opted in), but then how difficult will it be to check references if they REALLY have to when you get the role?Comment

Tell them that you are happy to take details of the referees, as long as they will commit to a penalty clause of £5000 to be paid in the event that your references are contacted before you accept a role.
That should deter them enough

i've just had a wasted journey into london to see a pimp who claims he has to meet with potential candidates before putting them forward for the role (roll)
I was asked who my previous line manger was and shock horror he actually rang them for a reference (old manager told me about it).
Seems to becoming more common.Comment

Well what i found odd about this is that i've been dealing with two other pimps from the same office for the last two years without even meeting them, they've always called me about roles prior to advertising but i've always been in a contract.Originally posted by Liability View PostName and Shame!
