Is the South East more dangerous to drive a car around than any other part of the country? I think not.
If potential danger is proportionate to the number of vehicles on the roads then yes.

And if the do, they then slow down and you are both overtaken by the traffic in the left hand lane

That is annoying, like the idiots (also usually BMW drivers) who will use the chevrons to leave the slipway early when joining a motorway/dual carriage way.

I usually just pull out anyway, never had any rude hand signals, beeping or flashing of lights in response, which from a BMW driver means, they know they're being a ****

That'd just be the perception of danger. A congested road is generally safer as the traffic speed is more even.

Drivers that pull off a slip road straight into the "fast" lane, because in their heads it the lane for driving fast and the other lanes are for driving slow.
Who has time? Who has time? But then if we do not ever take time, how can we ever have time?

In an ideal world where everyone thinks the same then perhaps that would be the case.

However, there's always at least one Maverick who just can't be patient.

Well, just let them be. They'll probably meet a like-minded fellow head-on one day, and then you'll whine about how you had to wait for emergency services to clear the road. Can't have it both ways, y'know.

                  Who's whining?

As for heading straight off the slip-road and into the 3rd lane, if it's safe to do so and you've got the horse-power, why the f**k not?

                  The babylon do that!

In fact, one of the best journeys I've had down from Manchester was when I was driving at 90 behind a police car that wasn't showing the blues. I was behind him so he couldn't do me for speeding. Great fun, he even gave me a genial wave as he pulled off the motorway.

No love for BMW drivers in this thread I see. I thought Clarkson had confirmed that audi drivers were the c0cks these days. Them and 4x4 drivers.

                    Churchill?

Buy a really crappy old 4x4 and drive where you like. When your car is worth eighty quid you can feel free to edge out into busy traffic, change lanes when you want etc.

Failing that just leave a bit earlier and chill out.
