History has proven that you get a better response when you make them laugh rather than depressed. Though this year I think the beeb has it the wrong way around. Not enough nakedness.

Indeed events like this make me wonder why charities have to help these kids when it should be government. I want to help but I don't like this guilt trip which the government uses to avoid paying.

This cheap boring BBC CIN stuff serves only to make them and those washed out celebrities look good. It's also cheap TV so saves the Beeb some cash to waste on other purposes. I pay my license fee for decent informative programs, not this blinged up pseudo sincere nonsense.

          Finger fun

When fast-forwarding through children in need, I noticed Jason Donovan making a phone-us signal with his hand. This involves extending the thumb and little finger and curling the remaining three digits of the hand, and placing this hand to the ear, as if making a phone call. Forget the part about putting your hand to your ear, what interests me is the curling of the three remaining fingers into the palm. I tried it, and the ring finger wasn't curled up as fully the the index and longest finger. Hmm. So I tried it with my left hand and this hand accomplishes the task most admirably. But I'm right handed, so might have expected the right hand to be more articulate than the left. Am I alone?

You don't make sense. A lot of money must have been spent on social workers, money doesn't prevent evil.

Don't watch children in need since it was reported that Terry (Mr Insincerity) Wogan charged £10k to host the show. Interesting how he makes a point of asking if everyone has given up their time for free though (ok I watched Girls Aloud )

Children in Need is a safe way for celebs to keep their faces on the telly and show how "kind-hearted" they are, without looking desperate. If it wasn't all being done in the name of charity, it'd be known as The Crappest Show On Earth and wouldn't have made it to year 2.

There is already enough money in the pot for abused children. You can’t substitute commonsense with money. What is needed is commonsense and education for those who don’t have the former.

I agree that money diesn't prevent evil - but not sure that money is spent on social workers. I have fought them - I am no fans of them - but its an easy budget to cut. the victims never complain - only publicity is in the worst cases.

and social workers cannot be sued so they can do as they wish....

not sure what I trying to say here - I wish I could think of a constructive way forward - like the rest of us....

Terry referred to it, but didn't explicitly refer by name. He said something like "the terrible news story that we've heard about this week", I think.
