I did not mention it because it is a much less frequently used religion so their impact can't be very high, only locally I suppose.Originally posted by Paddy View PostYou missed and Judaism, although theses days it is not the Jews but political Israel supported by fundamentalist Christians in the USComment

You are confusing spelling here with "clues", my main assertion stands so if you want to discuss it refer to it rather than spelling or other mistakes that do not affect the main arguement.Originally posted by Churchill View PostSee? You haven't got a bloody clue!Comment

It's nothing to do with spelling, it's to do with the fact that you're spouting off about something you have very little knowledge of.Originally posted by AtW View PostYou are confusing spelling here with "clues", my main assertion stands so if you want to discuss it refer to it rather than spelling or other mistakes that do not affect the main arguement.
Because you don't have that knowledge you're getting confused.Comment

Can you answer please simple question - if Islam was dominating religion in India around Ghandi time, then would have Ghandi (if he was the leader of resistance) chosen peaceful path to win back their land or not? Yes or No.Originally posted by Churchill View PostIt's nothing to do with spelling, it's to do with the fact that you're spouting off about something you have very little knowledge of.Comment

Before Ghandi promoted the path of Peaceful Resistance, there was much bloodshed in India at the time. Any uprisings were stamped down by the ruling British.Originally posted by AtW View PostCan you answer please simple question - if Islam was dominating religion in India around Ghandi time, then would have Ghandi (if he was the leader of resistance) chosen peaceful path to win back their land or not? Many Hindus lost their lives.
Would the Muslims have had a "Ghandi" equivalent? I really don't know.Comment

In your opinion, if Ghandi and his fellow citizens had Islam as their religion rather than Hinduism, then would that religion have made it harder for them to choose this path of Peaceful Resistance?Originally posted by Churchill View PostBefore Ghandi promoted the path of Peaceful Resistance
Bloodshed in Palestine has been going on for a very long time now, yet, no evidence of Palestinians choosing the path that Ghandi had chosen (that was accepted by large number of his compatriots).Last edited by AtW; 9 November 2008, 18:08.Comment

Islam does have a history of promoting peace. Once the dust had settled after the Crusades, Saladin did in fact permit Christians to visit and worship in Jerusalem.Originally posted by AtW View PostIn your opinion, if Ghandi and his fellow citizens had Islam as their religion rather than Hinduism, then would have made it harder for them to choose this path of Peaceful Resistance?
You're making the mistake of tarring every muslim with the fundamentalist brush.Comment

I am not tarring everyone, for example the model that Turkey has adopted in my view is very good and should be greatly encouraged.Originally posted by Churchill View PostYou're making the mistake of tarring every muslim with the fundamentalist brush.
What I am saying here is that in my view religions played and sadly continue to play way too big role in conflicts, but some religions (at least right now at current state of affairs) are far more violent than others - we certainly don't hear a lot right now about extremist Christians or Hinduists blowing themselves up to kill civilians.
It would have been better if all religions were demoted to strictly personal things.Comment

Politics and Religion need to be separated to enable a nation to flourish. Eventually this may happen in the Middle East, in my lifetime, probably not!Originally posted by AtW View PostI am not tarring everyone, for example the model that Turkey has adopted in my view is very good and should be greatly encouraged.
